Derek J. Doss, MD, PhD grew up in Northwest Arkansas. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering from Vanderbilt University, where he completed research into engineering and surgery with a focus on biomedical modeling and image guided surgery. He then decided to stay at Vanderbilt for his MD and PhD. He earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering with a dissertation titled "Connectivity, Consciousness, and Cognition: An Investigation in Focal Epilepsy" under the mentorship of Dario J. Englot, MD, PhD. He then earned his MD from Vanderbilt University. He is looking forward to learning all aspects of neurosurgery, but is most interested in functional neurosurgery and epilepsy surgery. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters.
